What is Speech Evaluation and Diagnosis?

Speech evaluation and diagnosis are made to assess an individual’s speech-language abilities and cognitive-communication function. These tests help determine if one has any communication problems. The evaluation and diagnosis are conducted by a licensed speech-language clinician or pathologist using two methods: 1) diagnostics and 2) therapy.

Medical diagnostics involves speech-language assessment tests will identify the severity, type, and factors that might have caused the disability.

An initial assessment shall establish the onset of the whole process, wherein a patient will be asked about his health history, developmental growth, family background, behavioral assessment, and other data necessary to periodically evaluate his communication status. The baseline information gathered is going to be used to categorize his case for habilitation or rehabilitation possibility as well as to set practical goals accordingly.

Either objective or subject diagnostic testing shall be performed; subsequently followed by the pathologist’s interpretation of results, then a clinical diagnosis.

Informal observations are also listed down to determine if it is caused by a speech or language disorder or something else. When these tests are complete, the pathologist can recommend the right treatments or therapies that can be taken by the patient to improve in their condition.

If the deficiency is caused by congenital anomaly, developmental conditions, illness or injury, speech-language treatment is suitable. During treatment, there is still an ongoing tracking of the patient’s progress through professional analysis.

At Neurorehab & Speech Healers, LLC, our licensed speech pathologists conduct these evaluations whichever way you are comfortable. Whether you want to do them in our Spring Lake clinic, do the tests at home, or virtually, we can accommodate you because we want to provide you with ease and comfort as we examine your current situation. If you have further questions about speech disorders and how they can be improved with treatment, we are here to give you the information that you need.
